On Wed we got some clay to sculpt faces. I haven’t touched natural clay since I went to an art school was I was in the secondary school. That’s like 20 years ago. I’m seriously pondering on buying some clay from an art store.

Linocuts

Linocuts I did at college before Christmas. Two black and white: the wreath shows shape and the ladybird shows form. And two colour versions of a colour-reduction print. I found linocutting a very relaxing activity and enjoyed it very much.

Monoprints

A series of monoprints I did at college. We used various tools and materials as well as papers for this. It was a bit messy but I liked the different and sometimes unexpected results of monoprinting and am quite happy with the outcome. Monoprinting is not as boring as I imagined before. E.g. I produced some interesting textures by using a wet brush on the plate with ink already rolled on, or splashing some water on it, or making a collage of monoprints, etc. And the reason why some faces look the same is that we used drawings from portrait studies we did in autumn.

Trip to the Flight of Museum

Sketches from a very old trip to the Flight of Museum. 3 images done at the museum and the rest at home from photos. I’m especially happy with the 2 sketches at the 2nd row from the bottom. I used a brush loaded with water to roughly “draw” the outlines of an object, then dropped ink on water and let the ink spread. It’s not a precise way of drawing but definitely a very fun one.

Oh, the last image is a sketch of Morrison’s store by the college. We were practising perspective that day.

Experimental drawing with unusual tools

Last Wednesday we had some fun experimenting with unconventional tools of drawing. We were asked to bring various mark-making tools and small objects which fit into a pocket or a bag and had to draw them on large sheets of paper. We had long canes with a brush or a stick of charcoal/etc. taped on one end and had to draw on paper laid on the floor. It was a bit annoying but I enjoyed it and I'm sure I'll want to try it more later. I also made a few drawings with a toothbrush, cotton bud, and a piece of card. I really like drawing with a piece of card, it's not precise but it produces very interesting results.

That's a pouch I once made from old jeans for my smartphone. Used a toothbrush and some acrylics on pre-painted paper.

Promotion of reading in Moscow with PG tips

Last week we finished a group project for the D&AD. We were grouped into teams of 4 and had to pretend to be real-life design companies and competitors to each other :) We had to choose a megacity and create an advertising campaign that would encourage people to take small actions in changing their behaviour. We had to pick Domestos, PG tips or Ben & Jerry's to act as a catalyst to create a long-lasting, city-wide behaviour change in one of these areas: health and wellbeing, reducing environmental impact or enhancing livelihoods. We did a hell of a lot of research, had many different ideas and in the end we chose Moscow as our city, PG tips as our catalyst and promotion of reading as our campaign. We produced 4 posters, as well as a few bookmarks and a pocket calendar as an extra. So here's my part of the project.

Hello and welcome to my blog which I finally managed to start :) I never imagined starting something like this could be so scary :)
A little introduction about me: I'm a translator and have two university degrees in this area. However, as much as I love languages and anything to do with that, my main hobby has always had to do something with art or crafts. So, this led me to Edinburgh, a very inspiring and beautiful capital of Scotland, UK, where I entered the Edinburgh College to study illustration, after which I'll continue studies in the University of Edinburgh. 
I started this blog to share my work, to grow as an artist, to discover other artists and meet new inspiring people. Here I will post my works done at college as well as my creations done during my time off.
